2021 Goals

Hello, readers! Today I thought that I would share some of my goals for this year. It is mostly reading goals, but I do have a couple goals for my blog and what-not that I’m also going to include in here.

Read 90 books

I am feeling a little iffy about my Goodreads goal for multiple reasons, but this is ultimately what I went with. First off, I’m having a slow reading year so it says that I’m already three books behind. Two, I just wasn’t sure on what number to go with in the first place anyway. I picked 90 because I read 83 books last year so I did want to read more than last year, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready for 100. We’ll see. I have absolutely no problem changing my reading goal so I’m not super concerned about that too much.

Read one classic a month

This is one that I think could go downhill real fast, but I’m going to keep it on here anyway. I did read a classic this month and have a planned buddy read for another classic so I am hoping I can keep up with this. I don’t read classics that much just because I find that they take a lot of energy out of me and could put me in a slump, but there are a lot of classics that I do want to read and just haven’t yet out of fear.

Read one backlist book a month

I’m counting backlist here as a book that I’ve owned and had on my shelf for over a year. I usually read my books relatively soon after I get them, but there are books that I don’t get to if it’s I buy too many books at once or around the same time. I am going to count my goal before with this one because a lot of the oldest unread books on my shelf are classics.

Get my TBR down to 40

I think last year my goal was 30 or 20, and clearly that didn’t happen. I bought more books just because I read more and was inspired to read more books. I don’t feel the need to keep a small TBR pile, but I find it overwhelming if I do have too many books. I started this year with exactly 60 books so hopefully I can bring it down.

Write a novel

Don’t ask me what it’s about because I haven’t really decided which one of my ideas I want to write. I’ve realized as I was graduating and now that I am still searching for jobs that it’s really important for me to become a published novelist. Obviously, that won’t happen within this year because publishing takes a while and I will still be working other jobs until this happens, but the only person who can get me published is myself so I have to do what can get me there.

Post a recommendation every month

For this to work, I do have to blog every month. Recommendations are my favorite blog posts to write, but I actually don’t write that many of them, and I’m ashamed of myself. I think part of it is that I’m scared that there are some books that I feel like would fit perfectly but can’t recommend because I haven’t read them so I have to wait until I actually read them for it to count. But I can always just make a new recommendation post later when things change.

Be Better About Activism On the Blog

Social justice is really important to me, but I have been a bad activist on the blog. I’ve completely accidentally disappeared when big moments have happened and spoke nothing about it. That is completely because I am an inconsistent blogger so I just disappear for a couple months, but I am really going to work on including links and recommendations on certain topics.

Those are all my goals I have. What are your goals for the year? I’d love to have a conversation down below.
