Hello, readers! Today I am here with a book tag. Like every other time, I wasn’t tagged to do it, but here I am. This tag was created by Nicole and Her Books, and you can click here to watch her video.
1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

I have absolutely no interest to read House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas. I know this was a lot of people’s favorite book last year, but I am not interested in reading any more books by SJM. I loved A Court of Mist and Fury, but I was not a fan of A Court of Thorns and Roses and the first two books in the Throne of Glass series. The plot sounds interesting, but I’ve heard that it’s like her other books so I’m not going to waste my time and read something that I know doesn’t work for me.
2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. I read the first fifty pages probably, and I have no desire to ever finish it. I like unlikable characters, but Holden Caulfield just didn’t work for me at all. I thought he was annoying more than anything and didn’t feel like there was much of a plot.
3. An author whose books you have no interest in reading?

I don’t think I have ever felt the desire to read a Stephen King book other than to say I did. I am starting to get a little into horror now, but I don’t read it very often. None of his books appeal to me. I know they’re a staple in many horror reader’s lives, but they all just feel out of date to me.
3.2 A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading? *you can combine questions 3 & 3.2 or you can answer them separately if you have an answer for both*

We are going to ignore that I read (and disliked) Illuminae when it came out, but I have no interest in reading Jay Kristoff. There is something about a straight white man sexualizing a bisexual teenage girl that really rubs me the wrong way, and he also has appropriated Asian culture multiple times.
4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

I have listed quite a few authors who would count for this question, but to give a different answer, I’m going to go with Colleen Hoover. I read a couple of her earlier books, and I tried to read a third, and I just didn’t really enjoy any of them. The subject matter is just not something that meshes with me, and I don’t like romance that much, and when I do, I like more of a rom-com
5. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?
As I said above, I have a really hard time reading romances. I typically think they’re super cheesy and get second-hand embarrassment for the characters that just makes the experience really painful for me. Honorable mention to fantasy because I have a hard time connecting to fantasy books. There have been some I like, but
6. A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread)

I feel this way about a lot of the classics on my physical TBR, but I especially feel that way about The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I know that it’s incredibly racist, and I have just no desire to read it. I also know that you are supposed to read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer first, but I don’t own that one and have no desire to read it.
7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

The Cursebreakers series by Brigid Kemmerer. I liked A Curse So Dark and Lonely a lot, but I heard really negative things about the rest of the series so I have decided to just not continue on with it.
8. A new release you have no interest in reading?

This is a really hard question, but I’m going to go with The Maidens by Alex Michaelides. I know this was really hyped when it first came out a couple months ago, but I don’t feel like I’ve seen the best reviews of it, which probably goes with the genre, but I just feel like there are other books that sound similar that I would much rather read.
That is all I have for today. What are some books/authors that you don’t plan on reading? Do you agree with my picks? I would love to have a conversation with y’all in the comments.
Great post Alyssa! I have never felt that attracted to Stephen King books either, but I do wish to try one someday..
