Musical Shuffle Book Tag

Hello, readers! Once again, I am doing another tag I wasn’t tagged in, but I decided to do it anyway because it combines two of my favorite books. This tag was created by Bex @ Becca Leighanne.

I am very passionate about music. I at one point played the piano, violin, and clarinet so this was something I really wanted to do. I’ve seen other versions float around so I decided to do this one. I just played my liked songs on Spotify because that was the easiest for me.

THE RULES:

In this tag, we put the tunes on shuffle & with each song we list a character, a ship, a book — whatever book-related that the song reminds us of. Consider it their song. Let’s do it for 5-10 songs (y’all can be extra if you want. I love people who are extra) & then TAG 5-10 OF YOUR FELLOW BLOGGERS.

“Royals” by Lorde

I decided to go with The Distance Between Us by Kasie West. Like “Royals”, this book discusses wealth. The main character has a very poor background, but she starts to fall in love with a socialite so I think she would really relate to Lorde.

“Favorite Record” by Fall Out Boy

I’m going to go with Just Listen by Sarah Dessen because both are about music. Annabel and Owen bond over their taste of music. The first verse is also about them dancing and listening to music in cars, which is what Annabel and Owen do a lot in Just Listen.

“Bang Bang” by Jessie J ft. Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande

Okay so I initially picked a different book, but then that ended up fitting another song too damn well so I changed my mind. This is really hard for me because I don’t associate books with songs like this. This song is also very sexual, and I don’t read a lot of sexy books because I just don’t like them for the most part. I have decided to go with Rhys and Feyre from A Court of Mist and Fury because of Chapter 55.

“Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” by Taylor Swift

Okay. I was going to pick Alex and Henry from Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston for “Bang Bang,” but they are this song with different pronouns. This song is about politics and how Taylor felt during the 2016 election. RWRB is about a first son who falls in love with the prince of England, and it causes political issues so I couldn’t not pick this one.

“Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane

This song makes me think of the book that I’ve been working on, but I’m not going to use that as my answer. Instead, I’m going to go with The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. This song is about the beginning of a new and what you can tell will be significant relationship. AJ Fikry at the start of the book is very comfortable with where he is in life even though things aren’t good for him. I feel like he’d relate to this song when he takes in Maya and starts dating Amelia.

“Winter” by Khalid

It feels ironic to pick a book I associate with summer for a song titled “Winter”, but I am picking Again Again by E. Lockhart. This book is a breakup, like this song, and I think Adelaide’s thoughts about her ex-boyfriend’s are similar to Khalid’s about his ex. Both express hoping that they made as strong of an impact of their ex’s lives as their exes did to them.

“This Is Me” by Keana Settle

I’m reading it now, but this really reminds me of Felix from Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. The line “I am brave/ I am bruised” really reminds me of him, and I think he would really resonate with the lyrics.

“Closer” by the Chainsmokers ft Halsey

This is Gus and January from Beach Read by Emily Henry. You can’t convince me otherwise. It is suggested that both of the singers in “Closer” are broke, just like Gus and January are. There is also adult angst, much like Gus and January have.

“Father Daughter Dance” by Kesha

Kesha’s lyrics really remind me of Emoni from With the Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo. I know that Kesha sings this because she doesn’t have a dad and Emoni does. But both talk about father-daughter relationships. One of Emoni’s big conflicts is feeling like her dad abandoned her and that he doesn’t really love her.

Bonus: “Gorgeous” by Taylor Swift

Confession: I tried doing this another time and didn’t like the songs that were playing on my liked playlist so I went through my liked songs and deleted the ones I don’t listen to. This was the only song that I actively listened to that popped up and I was actually proud of my choices.

This song totally reminds me of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’m so mad at myself for saying that Beach Read was like reputation when I recommended books based on Taylor Swift albums when The Seven Husbands is the book version of reputation. Evelyn Hugo’s reason for even asking Monique to write her biography is the same exact reason why Taylor wrote reputation. I think when I had started writing that post, I hadn’t read Evelyn Hugo, but I definitely finished it by the time I published the post so I could’ve changed it. This song reminds me of a very specific scene that I can’t say because spoilers.

Those are all the books I have to talk about today. I had a lot of fun making this so I hope that you enjoyed it. Let me know if you agreed with any of my choices or which books you’d pick for any of these songs.
